This month's speaker is Kate Betts who runs a local media and PR consultancy called Capital B Media.
Kate is a very experienced former journalist who has worked extensively in South Yorkshire newspapers, radio and TV; including Calendar, Look North and the BBC Radio Sheffield. Not for profit clients she has worked with include: Wildlife Trusts, British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, Holme Valley Gardening Network, Sheaf Citizens Advice Bureau and the Girl Guides.
Kate will be talking about why PR is important for her clients. She says:
“People cannot use your services if they don’t know you exist; nor will they volunteer or donate your organisation if they have never heard of you - or have only heard less than positive things. Good PR is not spin – it is about raising your profile and enhancing and protecting your reputation. See it as a free opportunity to tell people that you exist and explain what you do!”
Kate will be giving pointers about how to get good PR illustrating the strategies she recommends with the example of Barnsley Hospice who have experienced an increase in income and volunteers since working with Kate.
